Redesign imminent

Blogger announced today that they are discontinuing FTP publishing support to outside domains. Since my domain houses more than just my blog, I'm not going to switch my DNS to them. So, I'll be finding another tool!

It's just as well because, as the six of you who are still here know, I've needed a redesign to re-energize me to write more often than once every six months anyway. So, I'll be shopping for tools and looking to redesign the site in the next month. I'm open to suggestions!

The Amazing Race 15: My picks!

The teams for The Amazing Race 15 are out!

So this has turned into the only thing I post about, but I just can't let it go! I've posted these to Twitter (@tivogirl), but in case you are still looking here for them, here ya go, my official picks, which are usually pretty damned close if I do say so myself!

#TAR finalist pick 1: Marcy & Ronald. Incredibly physically fit, determined, well-traveled, educated... the team to beat!

#TAR finalist pick 2: Garrett & Jessica. Dating status is iffy, but they travel together extensively & he's an engineer

#TAR finalist pick 3: Dan & Sam. A tenuous pick, but never count out the male gay team on the Race!

#TAR 1st team off: Gary & Matt. A father & son who don't get along? How original. Zero travel or teamwork skills here.

#TAR wildcard pick: Eric & Lisa. Vegan yoga instructors? Yes, but up for a challenge. Zen attitude could push them far.

My picks for Amazing Race 14

Finally, I think we'll have a female team win the American version of The Amazing Race!

The team list is out, and on paper, these are the strongest pairs:

1. The flight attendants. Yes, you read that right. Flight attendants. Athletic, well traveled (30 years of experience between them) and blonde, but no dumb comments in the bio about "using it" to their advantage (which never works on the Race). They have a real shot to win.

2. The mother/son team. The son is deaf, so he and his mom have invented their own sign language shorthand for communication. That's about 50% of the race right there, and people will underestimate his abilities because of his lack of hearing. They'll be finalists.

3. The Asian brother/sister team. I know, a brother/sister team just won, which is why I'm not saying these guys will. But they are smart - Harvard Law grads both - young enough to try anything, and work well under pressure. If they can keep the fighting down and not get too cocky, they'll see the finish line too.

The wildcard this year is the redneck couple. The other teams will write them off because they talk funny and are from Virginia, but they won't give up and are likely smarter than anyone thinks. They'll stick around longer than anyone expects.

First off? The father/son team. Dad is 68 and looks frail even in the team photo. Son is in showbiz and probably only signed up for the Race to try and further his career. The first obstacle these guys can't get past easily, they'll give up.

The season starts February 15!

Amazing Race 13 teams are out!

The teams have been announced for the 13th Amazing Race, which starts September 28. Can't wait!

At first glance, it looks like there will be a lot of drama. Almost every romantically linked couple includes the word 'bickering', 'infedelity', 'estranged' or 'long distance' in their bio. There are no gay couples, only one sibling team and only one parent-child team. We have the token geeks, token minorities, token hippies, token bimbos (2 sets) and token frat boys.

My picks for teams to watch after a quick look: brother-sister Nick and Starr and long distance couple Aja and Ty.

I'll handicap all the teams once I've had more time to look over their info.

Back from the dead, but with great news!

Just a short post, but I'll get caught up with all the upfront announcements and new fall schedules shortly!

Couldn't wait to tell you all about this tidbit in the Fox press release, buried under the midseason replacements:

SIT DOWN, SHUT UP (working title), created by Emmy Award winner Mitchell Hurwitz (“Arrested Development”), follows a group of unconventional teachers and staff members working at a high school in a small northeastern fishing town who never lose sight of the fact that the students must ALWAYS come second.

Veeeeery interesting...

... told ya so...

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles had boffo numbers for last night's premiere. It was the top scripted show premiere in eight years on Fox and blew away the completely lame Golden Globe programming on NBC at the same time. Episode 2 airs tonight!

In other happy news, next week's Amazing Race finale will be one of the happiest ever! Thanks to the elimination of the one last obnoxious team, the three left competing are all pairs that I'd love to see win. As usual, it all comes down to karma.
