Bravo for Bravo
Very quietly and methodically Bravo has become the home of the quality reality series. They may not have blockbuster numbers or major sponsorships or 20-week seasons, but what they do have is utterly watchable programming. Even shows I thought I would never be interested have turned out to be addictive, like Project Runway and Blow Out.
My favorites have been the Showbiz series. Showbiz Moms & Dads could have easily been an exploitative, tabloidy mess, but instead handled its subject with complete sincerity and showed a wide perspective of the different types of families in varied branches of the entertainment industry. Similarly, Showdog Moms & Dads winked lovingly at its sometimes obsessive but utterly devoted canine companions.
That's why I hold high hopes for the third spinoff that starts tonight: Sports Kids Moms & Dads. I expect to find a respectful balance of parents who do it right and those who do it oh-so-wrong. We'll be shocked, amazed, humored and touched, no doubt. And hey - nothing else is on, so why not give it a shot?
